Albert Tamm: The Story Behind “Bazooka” and His Disc Golf Journey

How did you get your nickname “Bazooka”? We’re curious about the story behind it!

I got the nickname after the 2019 European Open, where I finished 3rd and I would consider this as my breakthrough moment on the disc golf world scene. I will not spoil what the Bazooka is yet… but as a pre-story - I was going into the final round and I was thinking this whole week that players usually wave to the gallery to thank them for their applause. I found it quite boring - so I decided to change that.

I will let this video tell you the story - Watch the video

If your ZÜCA cart could talk, what would be the most bizarre story it could tell about your disc golf career?

My go-to cart is the EZ cart because I like its lightness and the versatility it offers, but as much as I use it on the course to carry my bag… I have also used it a lot as a dolly its super helpful setting up for flymarts and vending - I can load it up to 4 big disc containers and off we go.

What is a moment off the course that truly changed your life as a disc golfer, but that most people don’t know about?

When I started touring in the US in early 2022 I think I wasn’t fully aware of what “tour life” really brings with it. On one side of tour life are the tournaments, which I was aware of, but on the other side I was surprised by the hustle it takes to tour and to survive on tour. It’s hard to fully give you this other side of touring experience through words, because of the complexity of the experiences I have had. Although this tour life has definitely tested me, I am grateful for all things it has brought me, because thanks to that I have developed and grown as a person more than I ever imagined.

What habit or ritual do you have during tournament weeks that others might find odd, but is absolutely essential for you?

I have a pretty planned out approach regarding how and when I train. So for me it's essential to follow that plan because this plan helps me prepare for the event and also be at my best form as the event starts. So I might say “no” to a lot of opportunities during the tournament week, because I have “plans” already.

What’s the most meaningful or memorable gift you’ve ever received from a fan or someone else— and why has it stayed with you?

I have these miniature rubber ducks in my bag that I have been getting at the MVP Open from a fan. I believe that they have a good charm to them so I have decided to keep them in my bag with me.

If you could relive one moment from your career—not to change it, but just to feel it again—which one would it be?

I would choose to relive my first win in the USA and on the Disc Golf Pro Tour - the Tallahassee Open. It was a special week.

What would you say to a young player from a small town or country who dreams of playing on the biggest stages—just like you?

You have to be somewhat “crazy” about the dream. In a way that the dream becomes the center of what determines your actions. That way, you can determine really easily between opportunities and if they help you towards your dream or they take you further away from it. Listening to your gut is a helpful tool on this one.
